In-Depth Story Critique

£25.00

Important: If you don’t receive an email from us as soon as you purchase your critique, please contact us at info@globesoup.net. You may have mistyped your email address, or there may be another issue. Since we’ll need to get in touch with you later to confirm details and arrange your critique, it’s important that we have the correct contact information.

In-Depth Contest Story Critique

Take your writing to the next level with a detailed critique of your contest entry. Each critique is designed to show you exactly how your story performed in the competition, highlight your strengths, and give you clear, actionable advice on how to grow as a writer and make your story stronger. Your entry will be carefully read and analysed by an actual human being!— more than once, with different criteria in mind each time. They’ll draw on judges’ scores and comments from the competition, as well as their own professional expertise as a writing competition judge, to provide actionable, insightful feedback.

What the Critique Covers

🔹 Score Breakdown & Judge Commentary
See how your story was scored, with context for what the numbers mean and how they reflect the judges’ experience of your entry.

🔹 Prose & Style
An exploration of your writing at the sentence and paragraph level, considering clarity, rhythm, word choice, flow, and overall polish.

🔹 Point of View & Tense
Analysis of how perspective and tense shaped the reading experience—whether they enhanced immersion, created distance, or offered unique effects.

🔹 Structure & Momentum
A look at how your narrative developed: the pacing, overall structure, the way events unfolded, and how tension carried the reader towards the ending.

🔹 Characters & Dialogue
Feedback on how characters came across—whether they felt vivid, believable, and engaging—and how dialogue contributed to their depth and to the story’s overall effect.

🔹 Emotional & Thematic Impact
Evaluation of the overall impression your story left. Did it resonate emotionally? Did ideas or themes emerge naturally? Did the ending feel satisfying or thought-provoking?

Why Order a Critique?

This isn’t generic writing advice—it’s a close, story-specific analysis of the piece you submitted. By the end, you’ll understand how the judges read your work, what stood out, and what shaped its ranking within the contest.

Delivery & Price

  • Feedback delivered within 14 days of contest results (or sooner if judging finishes early)

  • £25 per story

  • Limited slots available—reserve yours today!

How It Works

Once the competition closes, we’ll email you to confirm your critique. If you’ve submitted more than one story, you can choose which entry you’d like feedback on at that time. Prefer feedback on multiple stories? No problem, you’re welcome to purchase a separate critique for each entry.

NEXT CONTEST:

2025 PARANORMAL FLASH FICTION CHALLENGE

PRIZE: £1,000 | CLOSES: 28th April, 2025 | WORDS: 600 max

For this paranormal flash fiction challenge, each participant will be randomly assigned a paranormal entity or phenomenon. Once you receive your assignment, you’ll have until the deadline to craft a complete flash fiction story—600 words or fewer—that features this paranormal entity or phenomenon at the heart of the narrative. There’s no minimum word requirement, but your entry must stand alone as a full story.

Your piece can be eerie, heartfelt, romantic, thrilling, darkly humorous, or anything else. This definitely isn’t a horror contest—though you can submit horror, of course. The only requirement is that the paranormal takes center stage.

Entry: £3
